New Delhi, November 21: With his cricketing future to be decided in two days, dethroned captain Sourav Ganguly expects a place in the Test team for the series against Sri Lanka, saying he has performed consistently in his long career and deserved a comeback.
"I expect to be in the team," Ganguly said when asked about his chances of making it to the side for the three-Test series against the Islanders starting on December 2.
"After performing for your country for 10 years, you expect to be in the team, the rest is upto the selectors," he told NDTV.
Asked which form of the game he preferred to play in, he said, "both forms of the game are important. I have performed consistently in both so I want to play both".
Ganguly said he was not much perturbed over the way things had taken shape in recent times. "These things happen in a long career. I am lucky to have represented India in ODIs and Tests. I am looking forward to play as there is still a lot of cricket left in me," the left-handed batsman said.
The Bengal player also said he did not think he suffered from a prolonged bad patch.
"I scored 80 against Pakistan and also missed a hundred against England. It was just that I could not convert the scores into big hundreds. Last year I was the second highest run getter for the country behind Rahul Dravid. The difference (between our aggregates) was a mere 15-20 runs. It is just a question of not converting the scores into big hundreds," he added.
