Chandigarh, December 15: Former BCCI president Ranbir Singh Mahendra on Thursday came in support of Sourav Ganguly saying he 'deserved' selection and it was 'wrong' on selectors' part to drop him from the squad of the third cricket Test against Sri Lanka.

"Seeing the recent performance of Ganguly, it is wrong on the part of the Selection Committee to drop him from the team. Ganguly is a player who deserved selection," Mahendra said.

He said Ganguly's performance was ignored by the Selection Committee while taking this decision against him.

"How the Selection Committee could ignore the valuable contributions to the Indian cricket by Ganguly," he said.

"The committee must tell the reasons behind not including such a great player in the team," he added.
