Karachi: Disheartened with the humiliating 2-1 defeat in ODI series against Sri Lanka, new Pakistan skipper Younis Khan wants to pull the socks for the two-Test series in which they will take on the islanders later this month.

"The coming Test series against Sri Lanka is going to be very tough because we have not played a Test for the last 15 months which is a long time. We all need to be ready to get back into the Test match rhythm for the series. We are going to prepare hard for the Sri Lanka series and try to avenge the defeat in the one-dayers," the skipper said.

Pakistan lost the three-match ODI series to Sri Lanka after being hammered by 234 runs in the final one-dayer at Lahore. The Pakistan team were bundled out for a paltry 75, their lowest at home.

After the defeat, Pakistan Cricket Board decided to replace Shoaib Malik with Younis Khan as the helmsman of the squad.

"In my tenure as captain I don't want to see a repeat of that performance. It was one of the worst days of my cricket career. I don't want to see the team fail like that again, it was very disappointing for everyone," Younis said yesterday.

The senior batsman said he would work hard to bring out the best of the Pakistan team but made it clear he needed to be given authority as the leader of the team.

"A successful captain needs to have authority. People see Imran Khan as the most successful captain in our cricket history. He was successful because he had power and authority in running the team," Younis said.
