Mendis is not unplayable: Misbah

Karachi : Pakistan vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq does not doubt the class of Ajantha Mendis but refuses to believe that the Sri Lankan unorthodox spinner is unplayable.

The Pakistan batsman today said his side was well prepared to take on the mystery bowler when the two sides clash in the one-day series next week.

"He has gone for runs in recent matches and it is not difficult to take five to six runs in an over from him if you play sensible cricket. We are definitely not going to play with a negative frame of mind against him.

"We are prepared for him," Misbah said.

Misbah also revealed the way Pakistan bastmen were getting themselves ready to face the spin challenge.

"His wicket taking deliveries are the flipper that goes straight on and the leg spinner which he delivers at a very good pace does not allow the batsmen enough time to read him out of the hand.

"We have been practising in the nets by reducing the distance of the pitch so that our reflexes are quicker to tackle his deliveries bowled at a faster pace," Misbah said.

Misbah admitted that Sri Lanka's strength lay in the fact that they had someone like Muttiah Muralitharan in their side to guide and bowl in tandem with Mendis.

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik also made it clear that his batsmen were prepared for Mendis.

"There is too much talk about Mendis. Don't forget we have been playing a world class spinner like Muralitharan for a long while now," he said.
