New Delhi, February 7:: VVS Laxman may have been branded as a Test specialist but the stylish middle order batsman has not yet given up hope of playing ODIs for India again, insisting that he can ‘add value to the team in both forms of the game’.

Laxman said it was disappointing not to be a part of the ODI team for the tri-series in Australia despite a good batting display in the recent Tests series.

"It's disappointing not to be a regular in ODI team. Reason given by selectors for me being out of the one day team is not my batting, but my fielding. Though I am not the quickest fielder, but I am a safe fielder", Laxman said.

"This time as well I was looking forward to play in the tri-series because of the way I was batting. I still feel that I can contribute and add value to the team in both the forms of game," the Hyderabad batsman said.

Laxman, who invariably is at his best when playing against Australia, said that the result of the Test series could have been 1-1 had it not been for the Sydney debacle.

"After losing in Sydney, the team was disappointed, but we were ready for the challenge in Perth. There was no tension in the dressing room and we believed in our ability. The team took example from our victory in Johannesburg Test where the wicket was bouncy", he told a TV channel.

The stylish batsman revealed that the Australians had a different strategy for Indian batsman this time.

"This time Australia followed a different strategy for us. They set a defensive field and the focus was to contain and put pressure on us so that we commit mistake".
