Karachi: Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam has promised a sporting and result-oriented pitch for the first Test against Sri Lanka, starting from Saturday.

Intikhab said the Pakistan team management has asked for a pitch with bounce and movement where the ball comes nicely on to the bat.

“We want a good positive track where we can get a result.

Whichever team plays better should win, no worries about that,” Intikhab told reporters.

Pakistan, who play their first Test in 14 months, have an inexperienced pace attack with Umar Gul being the senior most member.

The other pacers -- Yasir Arafat, Sohail Khan and Mohammad Talha -- have just one Test between them.

Former Test captain Alam, however, is not worried.

On the surprise exclusion of Sohail Tanvir from the team, Intikhab said he is a very talented bowler but everyone felt this was not the time to play him.

“He does not have much Test experience but he will get his chance,” Intikhab said.

He, however, had no answer when reminded that the selectors have picked five such players in the squad who have never played a Test match.

The Pakistan coach also played down reports of differences between the captain and the selectors over selection of certain players.
