Chappell told me 'you are not good enough': Bhajji

New Delhi: After Virender Sehwag, star India spinner Harbhajan Singh on Tuesday lashed out at Greg Chappell, accusing the former India coach of browbeating players and putting doubts in their mind.

Harbhajan said Chappell, during his tumultuous two-year tenure, refused to listen to players and created self-doubt among the cricketers.

"(Under him) our mind was not working properly. He put a lot of doubts in my mind and in other players' as well...that you know you are not good enough..." Harbhajan told a television news channel.

"Lot of things were happening and we were not happy with lot of things," he said, refusing to delve into the details.

Incidentally, Sehwag too had a similar view on Chappell, who, the Delhi player alleged, betrayed the trust of the players.

Apart from Sehwag and Harbhajan, Chappell reportedly had problems with Zaheer Khan as well and the off-spinner confirmed the soured relation between the then coach and the players.

"He (Chappell) just wanted to say whatever he felt and didn't want to listen.

"If you see the record, I think we have done wonders in the last two years. But if you see when he was around, we didn't play well at all. We hardly won anywhere," Harbhajan said.

Chappell, however, was not the only problem for Harbhajan who created a furore in 2008 when he slapped the then India teammate S Sreesanth during an Indian Premier League match.

Harbhajan said he regretted the incident and has learnt his lesson.

"I just lost my control (Over emotions). I should not have done that. I think I made a big mistake. He (Sreesanth) is a great guy," Harbhajan said.

"...woh meri galti thi (I made the mistake) and I apologised to the whole of India. People look upto us as role models and by doing such a thing, we didn't set a good example.

"I picked the phone and said I should not have done this. I don't know how it happened. I could not realise how it happened," Harbhajan said.

Guru Greg

Harbhajan and Viru are just two who have spoken up.Before them, he had destroyed the career of Saurav Ganguly, one of the best players we have had in the recent past.Guru Greg is also single handedly responsible for the mess that Irfan Khan finds himself in.He ensured that Irfan neither remained a potent bowler or a handy batsman who could throw his bat at the crunch time and never became a all rounder too. What a bad phase of Indian cricket it was under his bad influence.

Mister A R prabhakar don't go too much in supporting a player.I am sure that Ian Chappel didn't influenced him in Racist remarks to players of other countries or Slapping Player of his own country. He shows stupid gesture when he out some players.I haven't seen any such thing by great players like Murali, Bishen singh e.t.c.He have to contact some psychiatrist.

Chappel -ve effects

Most of the prominent players are now opening up and saying what has ruined our chances of 2007 WC. I think, there is one more person who is also equally responsible for India not winning WC and he is our Kirn More. If at all Chappel is responsible for creating doubts in players mind, Kiran played crucial role in de-stabilizing team by way of removing players from the team for no good reason.I think, BCCI must ban him and take out all benefits he is getting now as a ex-player for indulging in all activities. When compare to Ganguly, he is not even 10% of Ganguly calibre and not even contributed 10% as a player. These type of ex-players who have big time attitude problems must not be entertained by BCCI. The lesson we learnt is at the cost of 2007 WC.

Gaguly was useless player
by Sham on 2009-02-04 23:17:40.635334+05:30
Ganguly never played well. Sure, he was good captain but not a good player. He should have been removed from team long time ago. Check his past scores from 3 years when he was asked to leave. His average is below 15 runs. Kiran More did good to get rid of him. Ganguly should have been non-playing captain.
