: Injured Brett Lee out of ODI tri-series

Melbourne: The Australian team suffered a blow as its veteran pace spearhead Brett Lee was ruled out of the entire ODI tri-series against India and Sri Lanka due to a broken foot. The 35-year-old pacer will remain out of action for four to six weeks, also leaving him in doubt for the tour of West Indies starting March 16. Australia team doctor Trefor James said a bone in Lee’s right foot broke when he was struck hard by Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s slog in his follow through in the second Twenty20 on Friday.

Australia captaincy devalued: Chappell

Melbourne: Former Australian skipper Ian Chappell feels the national team’s captaincy has been devalued by the appointment of rookie George Bailey as Twenty20 skipper. “Twenty20 might be the shortest form of the game and viewed as rock’n’roll cricket, but that’s no reason to start devaluing the Australian captaincy,” Chappell said.

Sehwag left out

Skipper MS Dhoni said the decision to bench Sehwag in favour of Rohit Sharma, was to blood the youngster early on in a ‘long series.’ Dhoni said: “It’s not about his (Sehwag) injury. Quite a few other players have niggles. If you want to make Rohit play, an experienced player can come and go out of the side. But for Rohit, it may be tough later, if he doesn’t get going now, you could find him playing in tougher later-half without much practice. It’s a long series.”
