'We've been historically discriminated on racial line'

Agencies

Posted online: Saturday , January 12, 2008 at 1720 hrs IST

New Delhi, January 12:: The BJP urged the BCCI to take all ‘appropriate’ steps to defend off-spinner Harbhajan Singh in the ongoing race row in Australia.

"All steps that are appropriate must be taken by the BCCI," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javdekar said.

Harbhajan has been banned for three Tests for allegedly racially abusing Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds. The BCCI has appealed against the ban and a hearing on the matter will be conducted soon.

Javdekar said Indians have been at receiving end of racial discrimination historically.

"We have been historically discriminated on racial line and our team being alleged on racial misconduct is one the worst things we could face," he said.

Indian tradition

And Indians blamed each other – perhaps to 'suck up' to the perpetrators – if anyone dared to raise a complaint.

Gutless BCCI
by Prakash on 2008-01-13 14:06:39.118128+05:30
Are the gutless BCCI officials still living in the backdrop of colonial enslavement? The white dominated ICC and the anglo-cartel are still calling the shots? BCCI has to understand -The new generation of India gives two hoots about the superiority complex the angloes may hold about themselves by dominating the umpiring ranks and the ICC decision-making proceses. The Young India cares not for the submissive and insult swallowing gutless officials and players of the past. And what is Sharad Pawar upto? Apart from humiliating the country with his backflip, is he trying to project himself as some sort of Cricket-Statesman? Kick him out of the BCCI! We need some young blood.Next: Boycott all the Companies who sponsor Aussie players, punch them hard where it hurts the most - that is the only language these m**keys understand - and that includes the BCCI.

India has been at the receiving end for quite sometime but it's only surfacing now. Thanks to our bold boys with high self-esteem that we have exposed the arrogant and the racists. I have the following tips to our journalists and the general public that would ensure the decline of superiority feeling that many around the world possess.1.Journalists, stop interviewing and start ignoring the so called supremacists 2.Public, start boycotting games, both at the stadiums and on TV when the games are played against countries that profess arrogance and bigotry This would teach them the right lessons and bring them down from cloud nine.

SYDNEY MATCH
by dilip/hyderabad on 2008-01-13 10:20:20.512039+05:30
There is more to this match ,it should also be probed for match fixing and this aspect has been probed in an articles in TOI also.As we could see from the umpires reaction expecially benson they were almost willing to give decision in aussie favour for any appeal. There is surely much more behind this incident. Also since big money is invlved surely corporates who are not part ofthe current set up of BCCI may also be involved

Astralia controversy
by Sanjay Chaturvedi on 2008-01-13 09:46:05.158263+05:30
The overall campaigne favouring the right i.e., harbhajan and the fight against injustice ,, has once again proved that in spite of a lot of differences within ourselves we Indians are still one on issue of national pride. One issue amongst all these is being sidelined is that the match under question (sydney) should be deleted from the records as ultimately the Australians have won that match. When so much of irregularities have been found in the match, we should also take up the matter with ICC for gettig this match removed from records.
