We were outplayed by India, confesses Ponting

Brisbane, March 4:: His trademark swagger missing after a humiliating defeat, Australian captain Ricky Ponting acknowledged that Indians had ‘outplayed’ his world champion team in the tri-series finals.

"All credit goes to the Indian team and Mahendra Singh Dhoni that they outplayed us in the last week," Ponting said after the 9-run loss in the second tri-series final at the Gabba.

Ponting, however, did not offer any excuse for the defeat and admitted that his team could not put up a good show in both the finals.

"No excuses for we haven't won. We haven't played that well as we played in the lead up games. We were not at our best in the last game at Sydney and here," he said referring to 2-0 scoreline in the best-of-three tri-series finals.

Asked by former Australian captain Mark Taylor if the off-field controversies had affected the team, Ponting said that in the last week or so things had quietened down and still the team had lost.

"All that (off-field controversies) had gone down last to last week. But we played our worst cricket in last couple of games," he said.

About India producing surprise players, Ponting said Ishant Sharma and Praveen Kumar did an outstanding job for their team.

"Ishant Sharma was very good in the series and Praveen Kumar also came good in the last couple of games. Ishant's presence was vital for the team but others made up well for his absence," he said.

Well played India good win in the ODI's, 11 games played on tour against Australia, 4 wins to India, 1 draw and 1 no result, but then again 5 wins to Australia 2-1 in the tests and 1 nil in the 20/20, so it looks like Australia won the series.

Results really shows that Aussies won test series only by 'stealing' with help from Buchner and Bension

Ricky ponting wanted to win by hook or crook ...harbhajan slandered by the team and spectators alike. Lee's beamer to sachin. And what the hell was clarky trying to do with "groin hug and drag episode" last night. If bowling is not working get sachin out physicaly.

I think we should bring back Ganguly as captain and Dhoni should be made vice captain. We will be number one then.

There is no place for Gangult in the team. Forget about making him captain. He is setting sun and earlier he realise that better for him. He shoudl focus on IPL and that is all he need to do.

We were outplayed by India, confesses Ponting

The Australians usually abused and bullied their way to wins backed up by some very good cricket. The Indians for their part took the abuse and tried to suppress their anger and let all that affect their game. The test team composed of the seniors could not cope very well with the abuse with the Sydney test going the Aussie way. Of course the umpiring pushed them over the edge. The younger bunch really played well but also got under the skin of their opposition. The finals showing the first ones to blink were the Ponting's bunch.
