Sydney hysteria affected Aussies: Gilchrist

Agencies

Melbourne, January 24:: Adam Gilchrist has admitted that the ghost of the ill-tempered Sydney Test did haunt the World Champion side when they took field for the third Test in Perth.

The Australians were not their usual aggressive self, which was noticeable by their not-so-convincing appealing in the match.

The wicket-keeper batsman said the massive public outcry after the Sydney game was uncalled for.

"No one told us to walk out there and settle down and become friendly on the field, (but) may be subconsciously guys were a bit more aware of all the hysteria that was created, which I will happily go on the record and say, I think was way over the top," Gilchrist was quoted as saying in The Age on Thursday.

However, Gilchrist, echoing the views of pace spearhead Brett Lee, asserted that they should not be held responsible for the acrimony that marred the second Test.

"Did we start the race riots that happened in Cronulla? No. We won a game of cricket," he said.

Lee has said the nail-biting finish to the Test had added to the furore and the Australian side's behaviour had nothing to do with the acrimony.

Unfair Sledging
by Dev on 2008-01-24 16:21:25.793718+05:30
Australians stopped the sledging they lost. Cry babies. It due this sledging they won all these 16 tests. They have systematically obliterated the opposition to smitherens in this sledging and the opposition was was afraid of playing in Australia. Even a great bowler like Muralidharan was intimidated. God knows how many times Austalians were out and they were not given as they were agressive towards the umpairs also. This explains the winning streak.

We are not used to losing like India all the time. Poor losers? We wouldn't know, perhaps Indians could describe what it's like to lose all the time.

Sledging factor in australian wins
by karan on 2008-01-24 13:41:04.478461+05:30
ICC should ban sledging, in which Australian cricketers excels, and give a level playing field to all countries. If they still continue to win they are true champions

Indias excuse for being second best

I agree. And racists should be equally banned from cricket. Or is that only allowed for Indian cricketers?

Ozzies are crybabies and sore losers
by Hemant on 2008-01-24 12:56:10.284738+05:30
Boo Hoo... cry babies. India kicked your sorry behinds... thats a fact! The Ozzies don't have one bone in their body that can be called "sporting". If Howard was still the PM he would have joined in defending his cricket team. It is the players, the media and even the government that encourages bullying, sledging, and even cheating. I am almost certain that Bucknor had been paid off. ICC would have never agreed to what the Indians said, it is not in their blood to do that. The Indians probably had some evidence pointing to Bucknor's guilt. Mike Proctor is a racist sack of S.H.I.T... pardon my french.
