Sri Lanka Cricket sides with BCCI on racism row

Colombo, January 8:: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) got behind the BCCI on the racism row, saying the hearing into the charges against Harbhajan Singh was not conducted in a "proper manner".

The SLC secretary K Mathivanan said the ICC should initiate a proper enquiry into the matter.

"I think the enquiry was not very fair. It should be done in a proper manner. There should be more evidence," he said.

Harbhajan was accused by the Australians of racially abusing all-rounder Andrew Symonds during the second Test in Sydney, which led to a three-match ban on him.

The BCCI appealed against the ban, which now stands suspended until the appeal the disposed.

Mathivanan felt Ranjan Madugalle's appointment as a facilitator for the match will help control the volatile situation.

"He will be making an effort to bring normalcy between the two teams," he said.

Madugalle, however, was not available for comments.

Sri Lanka support india..well there's no surprise in that is there? It is happening as we all predicted The sub continent is hijacking the game of cricket. Pakistan get the ICC to sack an umpire based on the colour of his skin. yet there were TWO umpires involved in that incident and only one gets sacked. The ICC change the rules to alow that chucker from Sri Lanka to keep playing and now India protect a racist and hold the ICC to ransom! It's about to you racists and cheats left the game to countries that honour the game of cricket

There are couple of other points.SA officials have been consistently taken a negative line against india. Why the the heck have gavaskar and co gone and appointed a sa coach ? infact india has been doing well witout a foreign coach !!!also we should not let aussie sportsmen endorse ,do any of our cricketers endorse in australia ?we should get over this goro ka pyaar .Also what is gavaskar doing as head of technical committee and still there is no indian umpire at the ICC elite panel !!!.Are indian umpires so bad ?Also the second match has been efffectively stolen from us by a team which by all accounts would have won the series eventually i feel however thanks to their antics we have totally lost all respect for this present aussie team.

The first thing Ranjan Madugalle should do is to scrutinise Mike Proctor's manner of inquiry. If Proctor is found to be either prejudiced in his findings or carried out the inquiry incompetently or unprofessionally ,he should be declared unfit to be a referee of any sort in future by he I C C.
