New Delhi: The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) cricket team was banned from this year's Ranji Trophy due to their refusal to go to Srinagar for a Plate Division match against Jammu and Kashmir.

"The Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) cricket team was scheduled to play a Ranji Trophy game against Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at Srinagar from November 3 to November 6 2009.

"However, the SSCB forfeited the match, having expressed its inability to send its cricket team to Srinagar. The SSCB has therefore been disqualified from participating in the 2009-10 edition of the Ranji Trophy, in accordance with the rules of the BCCI pertaining to Domestic Tournaments," BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement in New Delhi.

"A decision on any further action against the SSCB will be taken by the BCCI's Working Committee."

think for a moment before jumping to any conclusions

Finding faults and pointing fingers is easy but think for a moment that the services teams might have a reason for not going there. The kind of security accorded to VIPs is not accorded to ordinary jawaans and officers from the services, so if there is a threat then it is a good decision to forfeit the match. Also, the services are well aware of the message this act would send and they would not forfeit the match unless they had a very strong reason to do so which could mean the threat perception was gravely serious. The last thing we want is an incident in which a services team would become targets which would bring all attempts at peace talks to a nought. Not only will all sides loose credibility and political standing but the extremists would also hog the limelight again. So everyone should think all matters through clearly before criticizing anyone. Before calling the services men cowards please think for a moment under what conditions these men are serving you and me.

I am ashamed that our service men are chickens in our proud national uniforms. SSCB should hang thier headsn national shame unless they give a valid reason. Why did SSCB not notify their absconding earlier? SSCB behaviour does not help to bring normality in J

What a shame that the custodians of National Security are running away from Playing a match in Srinagar...practically whole security of the State is with them. What is the message they are conveying to the Nation? They cant take care of their own team....What a fall
