New Delhi, November 7:: Opening batsman Virender Sehwag has been named the vice-captain of the Indian team for the upcoming one-day internationals and Test series against England.

The Delhi cricketer is also the vice-captain of the team for the fourth and final Test against Australia after Mahendra Singh Dhoni was elevated to the Test captaincy following the sudden retirement of Anil Kumble.

In the one-dayers, however, Sehwag replaced Yuvraj Singh, who is struggling with his form for sometime now.

"Virender Sehwag will be the vice-captain of the Indian team for the Nagpur Test against Australia, as well as the ODI and Test series against England," BCCI Secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement issued on Friday. England arrived on Thursday to play seven ODIs and two Tests in India.

Unfortunate Sehwag, a right successor for Dhoni
by Sajin Varghese on 2008-11-08 08:22:08.41164+05:30
It's simply a right decision as Sehwag is the most suitable guy to be as Vice Captain. Though Sehwag was captain of indian team for some ODI's and successful, it was his erratic form forced him to give a window to Dhoni. Hope this time he will succeed. As Dhoni has to establish himself as a test batsman, Sehwag's opportunity to rise as a Test Captain is not far away. His inputs to Kumble during last India-Australia Test series held in Australia and in some other occassions was admirable especially made an impact in the winning of Perth Test. His cheeky thinking and aggressive approach to the game and enough experience in domestic circuit will definitely support his credentials. Let's time will fill the remaining part.
