Durban, October 11: : Cricket South Africa has decided to constitute itself into a special company to benefit from the country's amended tax laws that allow benefits for sporting bodies with "credible development programmes". "Development programmes" in South Africa mean promotion of sports like cricket and rugby among the black majority.

Cricket SA's Commercial and Corporate Relations Manager, Kass Naidoo, said in a statement today that a special meeting of the board would be held on October 24 to elect the Board of Directors to the "new legal entity".

The Board of Directors will have 13 members, including a president and vice-president.

After the nominations for the Board of Directors were closed on Friday, Mtutuzeli Nyoka remained the only candidate for president and Hentie van Wyk the only nomination for treasurer.

Former International Cricket Council chief Ray Mali and Peter Cyster filed nominations for the post of vice-president. Three independent directors, including a South African Cricketers' Association representative, would be elected from among Paul Harris, Gary Naidoo, Queenky Gqobose and Tony Irish while three directors nominated by the franchises would be elected from among Fanie Gericke, Jesse Chellan, Ahmed Jinnah, Abdool Khan, Mohamed Ebrahim and Vuyisile Mgadle. The 13th member of the Board would be CSA CEO, Gerald Majola.

Naidoo said the directors would be appointed by the voting members who would be the 11 provincial presidents, one representative of the Associate members, the office bearers -- president, vice-president, treasurer and CEO --, one black African representative and one women's cricket representative.
