Melbourne: Explosive youngster David Warner, dropped from the one-day team, has been named in the 13-member Australian squad for Sunday's Twenty20 clash against New Zealand even as Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey have been rested, citing workload.

The National Selection Panel today announced squad, 'keeping in mind the preparation for the T20 World Cup', to be held in England in June.

Michael Clarke will lead the team while Brad Haddin will be his deputy. NSP Chairman Andrew Hilditch said resting Ponting and Hussey was the 'best option'.

"Given the high workload of Ricky Ponting and Mike Hussey since the Indian Test series in October we have decided, in consultation with these players, it is appropriate they miss this game. With a hectic and competitive South African campaign departing the day after this match, we felt this option was best in the interest of the player's workload management," Hilditch said in a Cricket Australia press release.

Hilditch said young players will have the chance to prove their mettle as T20 World Cup was approaching fast.

"This also provides a wonderful opportunity for Moises Henriques. The NSP regards Moises as an exciting young player with the all-round ability to play a role in the World Twenty20. David Warner also returns to the Australian squad for this Twenty20 match. While David was disappointed to be dropped from the one-day squad, we regard him as an exciting young player who definitely remains in our thoughts for the World Twenty20," Hilditch said.

The Squad:

Michael Clarke (c), Brad Haddin (vc), Nathan Bracken, Callum Ferguson, Moises Henriques, Ben Hilfenhaus, James Hopes, David Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle, Adam Voges, David Warner, Cameron White.
