It would have been easy to get carried away: Tendulkar

New Delhi: Sachin Tendulkar, who had taken up the cudgels against criticism of senior players last year, has said that he hardly pays heed to criticism.

"People will have opinions but that doesn't mean they are correct. They are only opinions and I have bigger things to deal with. Guys that have all the time in the world to discuss these things, discuss them. I don't," Tendulkar told men's fashion magazine 'GQ'.

Last year, Tendulkar had defended his senior teammates who were under attack during India's home series against Australia.

Tendulkar said the senior players had made major contributions, which needed to be acknowledged and appreciated.

Dwelling on his own career, Tendulkar said he had moments when he could have "got carried away" but hard work and resolve helped him reach the pinnacle of success.

"Given the things that have happened in my life it would have been easy to get carried away," Tendulkar said. "There were times when I felt that, yeah, I should bunk practice and spend time with my friends and go out for a movie. But my coach would turn up and make me sit on his bike and take me all the way to practice," he recalled.

Tendulkar, who holds umpteen cricketing records, said success did not come automatically to him. "I have made an effort. It doesn't happen automatically," he said.

Everyone has his advise for Sachin

Great player or not (some still dont consider him to be a g8 player) we as Indians all have our opinions on him or always have an advise for himthere have been more talented cricketers in India and we like them too but we love Sachin and the simple reason is that he does not have any airs about him. he is a lot more grounded than the others, thanks god and the people around him for the gifts and goes about doing his job. moreover everytime the knives are out he performs even better rarely hitting out at his critics. No matter what, we as Indians love people who are humble and grounded. for all the joys that he has given us and for binding us Indians together in his own way, i feel we should let him alone and let him do his job.

Tendulkar - Mr.Humility

Very true, dont think any other cricketer will even come close to the kind of success tendulkar has seen.He always remained grounded and success and adulation never influenced him. There are lessons here to be learnt by cricketers like sreesanth, harbajhan singh and yuvraj singh who are always in the news for all the wrong reasons, they behave in a most atrocious manner both on and off the field and try to justify it as well.

Sachin can only be compared with great golfer Toger woods or Dr Starzl, transplant surgeon, who invented liver transplant and changed life of people suffering from liver problems.Common factor among them is commitment towards their work.Sachin is biggest role model in india and should be declare as National heritage.Thank you Sachin you gave us lot of joy in our life. God bless you and your family..

I FULLY APPRECIATE THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF TENDULKAR WHICH MAY NEVER BE EMULATED OR SURPASSED BY ANY CRICKETER OF THE WORLD ,WHAT TO TALK OF INDIA. HOWEVER WHY IS HE ALWAYS SO BITTER ABOUT HIS CRITICS, WHICH IS SURELY POSITIVE CRITICISM. IN FACT TO MY MIND THESE CRITICS LOVE HIS GAME SO MUCH THAT THEY KEEP ON ADVISING HIM TO PERFORM EVEN BETTER. TRUE GREATENESS WOULD MEAN THAT THESE CRITICS LIKE SANJAY MANJREKAR ARE UNDERSTOOD IN THE RIGHT SPRIT OF THE GREAT GAME OF CRICKET WHICH HAS MADE SACHIN WHAT HE IS TODAY AND WOULD REMAIN FOREVER.
