India is not going to win this Test: Hayden

Sydney, January 5:: India may be keen to level the series and halt Australia's winning streak, but hosts' opener Matthew Hayden is sure the visitors do not have a chance to go to Perth with the rubber tied 1-1.

"India is not going to win this Test match. We have six wickets in hand and are on the ascendancy. We intend to keep it that way," the left-hander said on Saturday.

Hayden played a major role in giving Australia the upper hand on the penultimate day with his 29th Test ton. His effort of 123 on a pitch assisting the spinners helped Australia to a lead of 213 at stumps.

A win for the hosts will equal the world record of 16 consecutive Test victories, but Hayden said that was not at the forefront of the players' minds.

"We don't care too much about the 16th win. If it happens, great."

The burly batsman said his century did not come easy and he had to work hard for the runs.

"It came under difficult circumstances and I used whatever means I could to score runs today."

The Indian tactics also made scoring difficult, Hayden said.

"They bowled very wide to me with stacked in-out fields. Boundaries were hard to come by and the majority of my runs came in singles.

"There were phases when I was not scoring and got stuck and had to resort to the reverse sweep," he said.

Hayden suffered a sore right leg for a long part of his innings and skipper Ricky Ponting came in as a runner for him.

"Luckily, there is a lot of time before the third Test. Hopefully, I will be fit for Perth," he added.
