'In India, if you don't swing you can do nothing'

Perth, January 19:: After playing a crucial role in India's win against Australia in the third cricket Test in Perth, paceman Rudra Pratap Singh said his batting practice at the nets helped him gather useful runs in the second innings.

Spearheading the visitors' bowling attack, RP returned figures of six for 163 and contributed useful 30 runs with the bat to help India set a imposing target of 413 before the hosts.

"Yes, I was having nets. And the result showed that. It was important that India had a partnership at that time and I am happy I could contribute with bat as well," he said.

"I may now ask my state skipper to push me up the batting order, may be as a pinch-hitter," he added in a lighter vein.

RP, however, said that he would concentrate on his bowling instead of diverting his attention.

"Of course, I enjoy bowling more than batting. I contributed in removing the Australian top-order which is very satisfactory," the Uttar Pradesh speedster said.

The Rai Barelly Express admitted that the Indians had panicked when the ninth-wicket pair of Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Clark started to cut loose.

"Yes, we were panicking. But they had luck in their side. Their mistimed shots were landing safely."

Asked why the visiting bowlers were able to extract more swing than the Australian pacers, Singh said, "we are born with this art. On Indian pitches if you don't swing you can do nothing."
