I never thought of quitting captaincy, says Ponting

Perth, January 15:: Though the likes of Peter Roebuck demanded his head after the ill-tempered Sydney Test against India, a nonchalant Australia skipper Ricky Ponting on Tuesday said the idea of quitting captaincy never crossed his mind despite the barrage of criticism.

Not fazed with the charges of being arrogant on the field, Ponting made it clear that he never felt like giving up captaincy.

"I didn't think about quitting captaincy. It did not get as bad for me," Ponting said.

Though noted columnist Roebuck and hosts of former players believe Ponting led a team in Sydney that did not play the game in the true spirit, the host captain was far from fazed by the criticism.

"Well, I did not have a sweet persona. I mean, I'm not racing to a news agency in the morning and buying the paper to see what it said. Lot of the stuff that was actually reported I saw in second hand, my wife reading the newspapers and the stuff," he told a TV channel.

"While some of the criticism may have been fair, a lot of them were pretty unfair," he said.

Primed to take on India in the third Test beginning Wednesday, Ponting said he was now looking forward.

"Now it's time to get on and move on," he said.
