Harbhajan an obnoxious little weed: Hayden

Agencies

Posted online: Tuesday , February 26, 2008 at 1730 hrs IST

Hobart, February 26:: Harbhajan Singh on Tuesday came under a fresh attack by Australian cricketers with opener Matthew Hayden calling the off-spinner an ‘obnoxious little weed’, a remark which has the potential to create more bad blood between the two teams.

The Indian spinner, who was at the centre of a racism row involving Andrew Symonds, has borne the brunt of the Australian sledging during the explosive tour which has been marked by a series of verbal exchanges between rival players.

“Its been a bit of a long battle with Harbhajan, the first time I ever met him he was the same little obnoxious weed that he is now”, Hayden said on Brisbane radio.

“His record speaks for itself in cricket. There is a certain line that you can kind of go to and then you know where you push it and he just pushes it all the time.

“That’s why he has been charged more than anyone that’s ever played in the history of cricket,” Hayden said.

Hayden’s fresh salvo came a day after the Indian team management lodged a written complaint with Match Referee Jeff Crowe regarding Australia players’ “provocative” behaviour.

Hayden and Harbhajan were involved in an ugly tussle at the SCG on Sunday with the Indians claiming that the Australian opener had termed the Indian a “mad boy.”

However, Hayden made light of the incident and claimed India was complaining because “they are losing every game they are playing.”

“I called him a bad boy,” Hayden insisted.

“He took offence to that, I thought that was quite funny. I said mate you should be flattered, it’s a clothing range,” Hayden said.

Meanwhile, former Australian fast bowler Rodney Hogg also lashed out at the Indians.

“Ive really had a gutful of their whinging, this is international sport, obviously people are going to say things to try to unsettle you,” Hogg said.

“It’s not tiddlywinks. So long as it’s not racial they shouldn’t have a problem.

“As far as I am concerned if the heat is too hot in the kitchen then that’s too bad.

“I reckon they should appoint an Asian referee for Indian games because when it’s a non-Asian referee nothing against Jeff Crowe they never feel as if they are being listened to.” Hayden said he had told Ishant Sharma to settle down and yesterday quipped he would like to meet the stringbean paceman in a boxing ring.

“He is just young. I have said to him many times, you are 19, take it easy, Hayden said.

“At the end of the day you are 19, why dont you just worry about your bowling for a while,” he added.

OBNOXIOUS HAYDEN
by namrata on 2008-02-27 20:57:34.887291+05:30
The ageing australian cricket players are nothin' but a bunch of jokers who keep makin a fool of themselves! they're a set of uncultured n frustrated ugly old men who're terrified of the young n confident indian team....and there's every reason for these losers to be scared of India! India is the new world champion...as for these stupid ol' aussies...all they get is the tag of 'WORLD CHAMPIONS IN SLEDGING' . The best strategy to deal with these clowns wud be to totally ignore em....which is exactly what the supercool indian team is doin!!! Way to go, Dhoni

world champions?
by waxer on 2008-02-28 04:14:24.027648+05:30
This post is hilarious. What planet do you live namrata? Australia has been world champions for many years now, everyone in the world seems to know that except you! The shame is that this Indian cricket team is a very good one that has been very competitive through the summer here-unfortunately, noone will remember that, they will just be remembered as a bunch of whingeing sooks who cry and want to go home like small children every time something doesn't go their way.

Pathetic Aussies

Waxer, we live on the same planet as every normal human being does, but you don't seem to be aware that Indian cricket team are the world champions in the 20-20 cricket...guess you tend to ignore any format of the game where the boorish Aussie team has been beaten by others. And yes, you are right that it is a shame that this tour will be remembered for non-cricket things...and the full blame for that is with the whining Aussie team, who just can't take the fact that finally somebody is standing up to their bullying, gutter-level behaviour. Bhajji rightly said, they see that the crown is slipping, and they are reacting to that...and how pathetically!

austrailians give kangaroos a bad name as much they do fosters beer which probably is the only thing they can boast of. ipl should boycott the bad mouthing racist austrailians. what is the use of freedom if we cannot express it? if someone can call bhajji a bad boy or use four letter words, whats wrong in calling symonds a monkey, or ponting an idiot or hayden or kumble a bastard?

Punish the criminals
by Indi on 2008-02-27 09:49:50.561548+05:30
Barking dogs seldom bite. Only mad dogs start barking and bite at there Masters. Hayden, symonds, ponting are now at the mercy of Indian businessmen. They are a different kind of beggers who abuse there masters. Bhajji should file a defamation case against a lizard look alike hayden. Australia was the dumping yard of criminals for britishers. So hayden's ancestors are sure to be one among them and hayden being a big bad criminal is continuing to behave that way. When a dog like hayden barks at an elephant like bhajji, its the dog who wastes its time. We Indians are keen to sponser hayden to help him undergo a mental stability test.

Insults
by waxer on 2008-02-28 04:09:33.856067+05:30
Why abuse a whole nation because of a few instances in a cricket game. I have seen endless comments about Australia's past convict ties. Why? So some of our ancestors were convicts, so what? That was 200 years ago. We are a civilised country now where racism is illegal, there is no caste system, every person has equal rights. Free education, free medical etc. Also, our population is over 50% migrant- what is your percentage?-yet you call us racist? Bringing up the past is irrelevant. As to my opinion of what is going on in cricket. I believe Harbhajan is a liar and a trouble maker. I also believe the Indian cricket team is a bunch of overpaid sooks who threaten to go home like litttle children every time something doesn't go their way. But that doesn't mean all Indian people are like that, just the cricketers in this particular team, even then, I am sure not all of them are happy with this whingeing attitude.

Insults, yes.
by Anurag on 2008-02-28 20:36:00.569856+05:30
So Waxer, follow your own advice and stop picking holes with a country because of a few cricket instances. I can't see any connection between cricket and the percentage of migrants in India. An oh, overpaid sooks Indian cricketers may be, but those behaving like bad, spoilt brats are Aussie cricketers...it's easy to blame the Indian side for behaving like 'little children' because they have lost more matches on this tour than they have won against the Aussies, but that does not change the fact that the Aussie cricket team has been behaving like goons during this series, and they have now started to get into (at least some) trouble now for their sharp dirty tongues. Maybe, if the Aussie team had lost a few more matches on this tour, you and apologists of Aussie team like you wouldn't have had the guts to call the Indian cricketers 'little children'.
