Gilly's got 100 years to wait: Healy

Melbourne, February 26:: Australian Cricket Hall of Fame's newest inductee Ian Healy feels although Adam Gilchrist is retiring as the world's best wicketkeeper it would take him another 100 years to be considered for the honour.

Healy said he played in an era when the Aussie cricket was in a transition phase which gave him an opportunity to shine.

"Behind me were five keepers just as good, but not able to stand out and shine like I had the opportunity to do. I pity Gilly; he's got 100 years to wait," he was quoted as saying by 'The Age'.

"Cricket has given me everything. I don't think we've heard many of the inductees to be able to say that.

"They played for a great bunch of mates, a lot of pride and the baggy green. But I've been in the era that spanned part-time and full-time cricket. I've been given a lot." Healy said he desisted the term "professional" used for contemporary players as yesteryear cricketers were just as committed despite not earning as much as they deserved.

"It's a real bugbear of mine. To me, what cricketers are now is 'full-time'," he said.

"The cricketers of the past, where they were playing with the same amount of pride, and performing just as well - and losing money - that makes them just as professional as my era or the current era of players," he added.

Healy hoped that the big money coming into the game would not dilute its basic fabric.

"I hope that when big money drives things - television and the franchises in India - they keep what they've started to what it is. That is, a Twenty20 tournament once a year," he said.
