Colombo, January 16:: Sri Lankan spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan says he enjoyed discussing cricket with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on a recent trip to his in-laws' home in Chennai.

Muralitharan said he came in touch with Karunanidhi through his in-laws who are good friends of the CM's family.

"He (Karunanidhi) loves cricket and discussed the game with me (in Chennai)," Muralitharan said.

The 35-year-old off-spinner, who holds the world record for most number of Test wickets, said he has another three years of international cricket left in him.

"I may be able to play another two or three years of cricket. But I have enjoyed my game due to support from my country, my parents, my friends and my wife," he told a local television channel on Tuesday night.

Muralitharan reached the world record Test bowling milestone in his 116th Test.

A circular stamp to mark Muralitharan's world record was issued by the Philatelic Bureau of the Department of Posts of Sri Lanka.

Muralitharan said he believed in being cool and smiling while playing as one must enjoy what he does.

Muralitharan said Sri Lanka's World Cup cricket win in 1996 was one of his most cherished moments in his 17-year long career.

EVR's cricket achievements
by Bandit Mookerjee on 2008-01-16 12:41:27.724264+05:30
Very interesting! Not many people know that EV Ramasami Naicker was an accomplished cricketer. He used to bowl at 260kmph. One of his sixers went from the Chepauk ground right into the Bay of Bengal. Legend has it that it actually reached the Andamans. EVRN, however, left cricket at a very early age (when he was just 75 years), to concentrate on social reforms of the dugongs and manatees that used to congregate on the Marina beach. As a result of EVRN's efforts, dugongs and manatees decided not to encroach upon the beach. In present times, you won't find a single dugong or manatee on the eastern coast, right up to Visakhapatnam. For more details, the reader may refer to the monumental volume titled "Marine Ecology of the Eastern Coast of India" written by the late Professor Annadurai.
