Dhoni cracks ton as India amass huge total

New Delhi: Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni brought up his 5th ODI ton as he led the Indian charge to help his team score a mammoth total of 354/7 against Australia in the second ODI at Nagpur.

Earlier Australian captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and decided to field first. The Australians got Sachin Tendulkar out quickly but Virender Sehwag was in his elements and took the Aussie bowlers to the cleaners early on.

Sehwag though would leave after scoring 40 off 31 balls with the Indian score at 67. Yuvraj Singh who was making a comeback after injury looked good for his 23 but didnot last long. This brought together Gautam Gambhir (76) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni who then shared an almost run a ball century stand to give the Indian innings the platform to go for the big hits late in the innings.

After Gambhir's fall, Suresh Raina and Dhoni kept the momentum going, scoring heavily in the batting powerplay.

Dhoni brought up his century with a towering six off Shane Watson and followed that with another. Nothing seemed to go right for the Aussies as skipper Ricky Ponting dropped one of Dhoni's skiers.

Suresh Raina (62) too hit some lofty shots to increase the agony of the Aussie bowlers. Both Dhoni and Raina departed in the last over of the innings but not before guiding India to its highest ODI score against Australia.

Why do people comment when their basis of assessment is more emotional than factual?Tendulkar has scored nearly 30,000 runs in Tests and ODIs. He has left his rivals like Lara

Captian Courageous, Dhoni. Captain's innings ! Australia now has a taste of the Indian run machine !!! Ian Chappell already proved wrong, India will go on to win this series, if their key players can play without getting injured through the series.

its time for sachin to hang his gloves. let other aspirants get their chances. its pity on selectors despite poor show from great legend, he has been allowed to occupy grease for so long. wake up selectors. i agree fully with real bharatiya for his veiws on sachin. i appreciate the efforts of dhoni for his contribution in need. god bless dhoni
