Cricket Australia softens stand on IPL

Melbourne, February 14: : Cricket Australia (CA) has softened its stand on the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is now willing to renegotiate Future Tours Programme (FTP) to accommodate the Twenty20 extravaganza in the calendar.

CA has given indications that they are open to the idea of shifting matches on the International Cricket Council's FTP, which has been outlined until 2012.

"James Sutherland (CA CEO) is willing to participate in discussion and debate about creating a window in the Future Tours Program so players can play in the IPL, as long as it is a window that recognises the genuine interests of the FTP and all 10 ICC nations," CA spokesman Peter Young said.

CA, however, remains embroiled in a dispute with the IPL over players' contractual obligations.

"We are still of the view that (the contract disagreement) is capable of resolution. It's going to be tough, but we believe we can get through," Young was quoted as saying in 'Sydney Morning Herald'.

When the cricket boards meet next week in Kuala Lumpur to finalise future tour arrangements, IPL is expected to figure prominently in the discussion.

Why KL?

Why meet in KL, a country which does not play cricket. Neither it is friendly to India or Australia. Meet in Singapore or your own countries.

Aussies can stay home!
by Dileep on 2008-02-14 17:34:34.751292+05:30
IPL is just like English county cricket, purely domestic. If any foreigner is good enough and interested, he is welcome. Those wish to stay at home are welcome to do so. No one is forcing the Aussies to participate. It is in their own, financial interest (greed) they want to join. C.A. has nowhere to go. If they want to persue their domestic interest, let them be my guest. No one will ever miss them.
