Bucknor may not stand in Perth Test

Sydney, January 6:: Controversial umpire Steve Bucknor is most likely to sit out of the third cricket Test at Perth after a livid Indian team went public with their grouse against the veteran West Indian.

It is learnt that ICC is favourably inclined to agree with the request of the Indian team that Bucknor does not stand in any other match of the ongoing series.

Without taking names, Indian team manager Chetan Chauhan made it known his team's feelings about the umpires in the Sydney Test match.

"I would like to express the sentiment of the team. The way the umpiring was, the team is agitated and upset," Chauhan said after the team's 122-run loss to Australia.

"A lot of decisions have gone against us, of course a few went against the Australians also. But it really affected us."

"Had some of the decisions, I would say 50 per cent of the decisions, were received in our favour, the result would have been different," he added.

Chauhan said the complain had nothing to do with India losing the game and was a general disappointment with the officiating.

"We're not saying this because we have lost the game.

It was for everybody to see. I have been informed by the BCCI that they are lodging a strong protest with the ICC so that some of the incompetent umpires do not umpire in the rest of the series," he said.

The Indian team management is likely to draft a carefully worded letter about their request to not let Bucknor, or his partner Mark Benson in this Test, stand further in this series.

temper your comments

why do indian sound like cry-babies even when they are right ? Can you all please stop whining and using extreme emotions and bad words ? Can't you state your grouse or your case in simple adult language ? Is it necessary to say "Australian monkeys" ? I would understand if one or two odd people were doing this name calling. But when everybody starts using such language and sentiments it reflects poorly on the maturity of the nations as a whole. Please have some decorum and decency.

Johnno - The indians that are posting here are mostly people who have never been outside India especially to any western country and have not experienced western fairness, decency and generosity. Thier entire opinion of whites come from sundry newspaper articles about Indians in the west. And guess what kind of story the papers publish ? Stories that detail the bad stuff that happens to Indians overseas. They never publish all the good things that Indians experience in the west on an everyday basis. Which is why the perception of these people is so skewed. But worry not. I have taken upon myself to educate my fellow countrymen and perchance rid them of their stupid, uninformed, bigoted views. As for cricket, bad umpiring has been there since the beginning of the game. It's part of cricket and must be taken in the right spirit. But i guess "the right spirit" has goen missing from the sport because of the overall blatant commercialization of the game. Cricket has become as ridiculousm over the top and garish as WWF's fake wrestling. Comraderie has been replaced by cut throat competetiveness. The game has lost it's soul - to Kerry Packer !!!

Poor umpiring at Sidney
by AGR on 2008-01-07 12:57:04.296901+05:30
These umpires have not used the 3rd umpire when they should have, the decision making ability is poor. They consult a crooked opposition caption for a catch. All this reflects poorly upon the 2 umpires in question. Can these umpires not lose some of their benefits or be dropped - just as players would for lack of form ?

Bucknor beats Lara's record
by Sathish on 2008-01-07 09:02:01.182923+05:30
Bucknor top scored and beat Lara's record (463 runs - Australia's first innings run).He simple top scored and made sure Australia reach 400 plus. There is definitely something going on underneath the reality. Why does the third umpire also gave bad decision, i guess there is some match fixing. Australian cricket team is a bunch of kids, crying and pampered always to win all the crickets matches they play and dont want to be given out. They need to be given psychology treatment especially Mr Ponting for his kiddish attitude.
