BCCI responds to Kumble's 'timing' comments

New Delhi, January 23: : Test skipper Anil Kumble may not find the timing of the Indian ODI squad's announcement ideal, but the BCCI on Wednesday defended the move saying it was compelled by logistics to name the team ahead of the crucial Adelaide Test.

"It is because of the logistics issues that the team is announced early. We also need to give the players some time to mentally prepare for the tour," BCCI vice President Rajiv Shukla said reacting to Kumble's comments.

Seniors like Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have been left out of the squad for the tri-series, also involving Australia and Sri Lanka, leading to criticism that it might affect the trio's morale ahead of the fourth and final Test against Australia.

"The selection is not in their hands. I have gone through it, it's not ideal but that's the way it is. It's a bit disappointing," Kumble said on the eve of the Test on Wednesday.

"It's not easy on senior players. Having said that, we would keep our focus on this Test," the veteran leg-spinner added.

Shukla said team selection was done taking into account the availability of selectors.

"The convener of the selection committee Niranjan Shah decides the dates of the selection committee meeting taking into account the availability of the selectors," he explained.

However, Shukla promised to take note of Kumble's comments.

"This has been the practice all along. We will definitely take note of the captain's views on this matter," he said.

BCCI Responds to Kumble Timing Comments

Strange is the way the BCCI operates. They, in fact, should have waited till the end of this tour and then declared the team for the next series. But as Mohinder Amarnath said, if I remember correctly, that they (the BCCI) are a bunch of jokers.

Dump BCCI and join ICL
by Gunjan Shah on 2008-01-24 06:37:00.140528+05:30
This is extremely insensitive on the part of BCCI and Selection Committee to announce the team for one day series at such a crucial time when team India is trying to fight it out to save the series. These administrators and members of the selection committee lack in simple courtesy and civic sense. They have no respect for people who have given their best for the cause of Indian Cricket and on whose laurels these guys are enjoying their life. It is high time that Saurav and Dravid and all well-meaning people for Indian Cricket dump BCCI and join ICL and make it the real Cricket Body of India.

BCCI's selectors and managment seems to be out of their mind. What a lame excuse. Defending their ill timed announcement of ODI team is an insult to players especially you need their services for the test. Their logic to name the team ahead of the crucial Adelaide Test and passing blame for their action to the players is nothing but stupidity on their part. The chairman of selection commitee should be replaced and the commitee members as well if they do not have time to meet for selection meeting. They are bunch of idiots who wants to write news stories for the news paper who rewards for passing excuses for their deeds. BCCI is rich and should have applied for all probables that were under consideration and put those in the plane who made to the list or send all to Australia. A bunch of penny pinchers should have known better then hurting Surav, Rahul and Laxman. They have served India well and does not need this. no should be shocked of players should be blamed if the test is lost.
