BCCI is having its way with ICC: Shane Bond

Agencies

Posted online: Sunday , March 02, 2008 at 1823 hrs IST

New Delhi, March 2:: Former New Zealand speedster Shane Bond today expressed his disappointment with the way the ICC was allegedly being dominated by BCCI and said it was time the world body took a stand.

"Every sport, whether it is football or hockey, has a governing body which decides the policy that should run the game. But in cricket, it's very unfortunate that although the ICC is the governing body, it is being pushed around by the Indian Cricket Board. It's high time the ICC did something about it," Bond told PTI.

Bond, who stuck with the Indian Cricket League even after the BCCI-backed Indian Premiere League was launched, said it was important that the IPL's benefits reached other boards as well.

"The rich profits earned by the IPL should reach the other cricketing boards too. It is important that the BCCI shares a portion of money with all other boards so that those boards can use it to develop more players," he said.

BCCI is having its way with ICC: Shane Bond

Well actually ICC should be replaced by another body which makes and implement same rules for all players regardless of the colour of the skin or race. It starts hurting 'whites' when they have to drink their own medicine. It was alright to bowl beamers (remember bodyline series?) but as soon as West Indies started producing fast bowlers they made a rule of "only one bouncer per an over". Sledgind and swearing towards non whites was alright until they started getting back. ICC was ok with it because most of the management is made of whites. Now that BCCI stood up against the unfairness and unjustice, Shane Bond doesn't like it. They don't want non-whites but don't mind their share of profit!!! What a double standard??

Bond and his doublespeak
by Anurag on 2008-03-02 19:20:36.093368+05:30
Why are you so worried about the profits of IPL reaching other cricket boards, Shane? Is it because it is not the New Zealand board which is running the League? Could we have heard such pious concerns from Shane Bond and his ilk if it was not the BCCI but Cricket Australia or his own country's board running the League? On the one hand, he says that the ICC is being unduly dominated by the BCCI, and on the other hand he wants the BCCI's money too...vow, talk of doublespeak!!
