60 pc respondents want Ponting sacked

Melbourne, January 8:: Almost 60 per cent of respondents in an online poll have favoured sacking Australian skipper Ricky Ponting for his role in the racial abuse controversy during the second Test against India in Sydney which has hampered the cricketing ties between the two countries.

Out of 54,435 votes that were counted online on Sydney Morning Herald website, only 27 per cent responded with a 'no' to the question 'If it was right to sack Ponting for his role in the ‘Monkey Affair’.

The poll was in response to a column by Peter Roebuck, demanded Ponting's sacking.

It said, "if Cricket Australia cared a fig for the tattered reputation of our national team in our national sport, it will not for a moment longer tolerate the sort of arrogant and abrasive conduct seen from the captain and his senior players in the past few days. It was the ugliest performance by an Australian side for 20 years. The only surprising part of it is that the Indians have not already packed and gone home."

The Australian team had alleged that Harbhajan Singh called Andrew Symonds a 'monkey' which resulted in a three-Test ban slapped by ICC Match Referee Mile Procter.

"All the Australians elders want to do is to hunt him from the game. Australian fieldsmen fire insults from the corners of their mouths, an intemperate Sikh warrior overreacts, and his rudeness is seized upon," Roebuck added.

Billy Bowden is as bad as Bucknor rather their is always a race among them as to who favors Aussies the most. Its like falling from sky and geting cought in coconut tree! You may look into the records and see.Perth will demonstrate more.So nothing to celebrate about as yet untill the entire scope of bad umpiring is removed by juditious use of technology.TV umpire should be more watchfull and intervene(online) even before umpire in the middle ask for them, say for run outs,no balls, nicks, disputed catches, fours, sixes etc.Otherwise, they(Aussies) would play Hard(-means appeal strongly even if ball has hardly touched the bat etc) and Fair(-if the appeal is genuine) and write all records in their favor to cross over Tendulkars and Gavaskars of the today

correct me if i'm wrong, but didn't Kumble appeal for LBW against Hogg when the ball was struck through the covers for two runs ... OFF THE MIDDLE OF HIS BAT. Now if we are going to be objective about this whole affair, both sides have to realise that both sides are doing the same thing to a certain extent

Shann, well there are two things:One , if you recall your playing days(I believe you have been active in field)there are reflex appeals which you do thinking that batsman may not get the touch or the ball carries to the nearby fielders to complete the catch etc. so the Kumble's appeal, certainly falls under this category.Second, when you realise the far-sightedness of the umpire, who hardly is able to call 'No Ball'(Lee-Jafer case), you can try your luck!!!!!Ponting - Bhajji dismissal. In Aussies's style of Hard

Racism!
by Venkat on 2008-01-09 08:36:46.122322+05:30
A black/Brown (Singh) Calls another Black/Brown (Symmonds) as a Monkey. Public from Mumbai call Symmonds a Monkey among Kangaroos is a racial abuse? It is Whites who considered themselves supreme race! Others as inferior Australian first PM said it. How can Singh be a racist? who is neither a white nor belongs to any supreme race. Ponting
